Bundi, prehistory and Mr Kukki - an introduction

Hello, this is the start of a four-hands-blog. Be patient, it'll take us some time to organize it...
We would like to present you in these pages the unsuspected richness of archaeological patrimony of a small district of Rajasthan : the state of Bundi. Please be tolerant with language mistakes : my mother tongue is french and Kukki's is hindi.

BUNDI : important city in the medieval times (12th to 13th centuries), Bundi gradually lost its strategical and commercial importance in front of its sister-town, Kota, just 40 km away. Kota grew to nearly one million inhabitants while Bundi stayed a little charming quiet town forgotten by heavy industry and mass tourism, and loved by artists and individuals. (Kipling is said to have written here his famous "jungle book".)

ARCHAEOLOGY : Around Bundi, you can find little rocky mountains, rivers that are dry in hot season, coutryside with crops and villages... and also, further away, tribal and jungle zones with little or no inhabitants. All these places were occupied a long time ago by men living under rock-shelters, stone-age and bronze-age people that left a big lot of traces of their activities : silex tools, terracota animals, bronze axes, paintings...

MR KUKKI. A man spent years of his life collecting and preserving these prehistorical traces: Mr O.P. Sharma, nicknamed Kukki. I'll let him present himself on the next post.

THE BLOG : we would like to give here an idea of different things that can be seen when going around with Mr Kukki : rock paintings, sculptures, landscapes... And, from time to time, we'll present some archeological riddle : strange mathematical objects or unusual writings.
Be patient...
See you soon, OK59
